Oidhche amháin bhí na leanbhaí ag béicigh le n-ocras agus gan aon rud le n-ithe acu, ná aon rud aice le tabhairt dóibh. Chuin iad do shásamh do fúair sí corcán agus líon sí do chlocha é agus chuir ar an dteine é.
    I gcaitheamh na h-oidhche do shín na leanbhaí thall is abhfus ins gach cúinne mar do bhí coladh ortha. Fé cheann tamaill do ghlúais chúiche isteach an doras fear mór breágh. Dfíafruigh sé dhi cad do bhí ar an dteine aici agus dubhairt sí go raibh sí lán do chlocha. Tóg an clúdach do ar seisean. Ní fiú liom é thógaint do ar sise mar níl aon nídh ann ach clocha.
