European directives give ambitious objectives of renewable energy production for the year 2020 and biomass is supposed to play a major for meeting it. The potential availability of biomass is so a crucial point. Since twenty years, a lot of studies have been published on this issue (especially in the forestry area) but they are often difficult to use and to compare because of the lack of details on the input data, assumptions and calculation steps. Moreover few studies address this question in an integrated way for both agriculture and forestry. Aim of this work carried out by two partners from agriculture (GIE ARVALIS/ONIDOL) and forestry sector (FCBA) was to establish common methodological guidelines, to improve their data bases and their calculation tools in order to assess biomass availability under different scenarii with focus to the French situation.
