In Finland it is estimated that forest biomass will be the main source of bioenergy when meeting the national target of 38 % renewable from total energy consumption by 2020. Achieving this target means that concrete actions on increasing the use of renewable energy have to take place in regional level. This study introduces a questionnaire study for bringing out concrete possibilities and challenges in forest biomass production, supply and small scale use. This is why it is important to gather information from actual participants operating daily with bioenergy. Current regional production and supply volumes for forest biomass will also be defined. This study will give firsthand information and valuable references from operation methods for local decision makers and investors interested in use and production of forest biomass. They can apply the opinions and concrete examples into practice and learn from the actual actors working with forest biomass. However, if executing this study the background knowledge of local use of energy and availability of forest biomass must be taken into account.
