Torrefied pellets properties produced at CENER's 2MW pilot plant will be presented as coal substitute in power plants. The purpose of this work is to show how biomass torrefaction process and torrefied pellets are produced at CENER's 2MW pilot plant. Basic characterization of torrefied pellets has been achieved, as well as comparison of properties of torrefied biomass from different feedstock processed in different pilot plants and laboratory. A Hardgrove Grindability Index (HGI) and milling test at pilot plant of resulted torrefied biomass are discussed, as well as preliminary combustion test results carried out at laboratory.
