The present paper illustrates the outputs of the expert elicitation survey on biofuel 2nd and 3rd generation technologies. The survey focuses on eliciting probabilistic information on the future costs of biomass for use as transport fuel and on the potential role of RD&D in reducing these costs. To this end, we collected information from fifteen leading experts coming from different EU Member States and belonging to the academia, the private sector and to international institutions. The survey collected probabilistic information on the role of RD&D (Research, Development and Demonstration) investments with respect to lowering future costs of these technologies and the potential for their deployment (both in OECD and nonĀ¬ OECD countries). The information gathered from the experts sheds light on the evolution of the future costs of biofuel technologies and results in a number of important policy recommendations with respect to biofuel RD&D investment.
