Photograph of a parade in a market square, England, just prior to or just after the outbreak of war. The front rank are Hussars in full dress; behind them stand infantry of the line in full dress (from a 'Royal' regiment, as indicated by the dark blue facings of the red jackets), and finally a unit of Cadets in service dress. Pte. Foster is possibly among the Cadets.
Pte. 200816 William Ernest Foster, D Coy. Heavy Section, Machine Gun Corps (later D Bn. Heavy Branch, Machine Gun Corps and 4th Bn. Tank Corps), served originally in the Machine Gun Corps (Motors).
