My maternal grandfather who served in France from 1914-1918. It shows his wedding on leave in 1915 to Gwladys Phoebe Kirkham in Swansea. Postcards he sent from France and a photograph of his daughter Gwladys Betty (born in June 1918), sent by her godmother Liz Kirkham to her brother-in-law at the Front. Includes a picture from Glyn of his regiment marching through Lille in 1918 after the liberation of the city.
Editor's Comment:
Two portraits of Robert Coode wearing the cap badge of the 8th (Post Office Rifles) Bn. London Regiment; on the wedding photograph, note also the crossed-rifles over serjeant's stripes, indicating that he served for a time as a musketry instructor.
A group photograph of men in gymn kit with numbers pinned to shirts.
A group photograph of men of the Post Office Rifles wearing Pattern 1914 infantry equipment and armed with SMLE rifles. A photograph of the liberation of Lille: regimental band playing in helmets, watched by a Military Policeman, with a battalion marching behind.
Private 371990 Robert Glyndon Coode, 8th (Post Office Rifles) Bn. London Regiment, later served in the 24th (The Queen's) Bn. London Regiment (service no. 738054).
